Yes, it’s similar to an IRS tax lien, it will never go away. I’m in the mortgage business and on the 1003 application, you are asked specifically if you have obligations. A false answer will not only kill your home loan, but technically, it’s a criminal offense.

You may try and negotiate with your lender, but it’s a long shot.

You have to pay back student loans no matter how long its been. If you don’t the government can garnish your wages, take you tax refunds and more. Plus the longer you wait the more it’s going to cost you.

They only go away when you finish paying them off or when you die.

You will owe a student loan until you die. Ther is no statue of limitatons on student loans, nor can a person file them away on bankrupcy.

A credit counselor told me that the liens for taxes and student loans wouldn’t show up on your credit report after 7 years. Can that possibly be true?
